Saturday’s club-wide picnic is cancelled due to the success of our World Cup team today.

If you are unaware, the United States men’s national team will be playing Ghana at 1:30 PM CDT (TV coverage begins at 1 PM CDT on ABC) in the preliminary knock-out round of the World Cup.

We encourage all of our players to sit down, watch the game, and hopefully allow this to become one those defining moments in sports history that inspires them as the next generation of soccer-loving Americans. Games like this can transform the way kids feel about the game. I hope all of our players get hooked by watching these games.

 TRYOUTS:

Tryouts are scheduled for Monday 06/21/10 and Tuesday 06/22/10 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on Lake Country Field 8 just south of the Soccer Dome.  All current players are encouraged to attend in their Blue Uniforms to help prospective players quickly adapt to our planned training sessions. We are attempting to find more players in all age groups and genders.

CLUB PICNIC:

There is a clubwide picnic planned for Saturday, June 26th, from Noon – 3:00 PM at the Parkview Soccer Field. We will do a ”Pot Luck” as far as menu is concerned. Many kids have asked for players against parents soccer games….be prepared.

DEADLINES:

All returning players must tell us they intend to play in the fall, and must be fitted for uniforms by Friday, July 2nd.

TEAM CAMP:

Team Camps are planned for the Week of August 9th at Parkview High School. We have contracted a camp company to help with the U12 through High School ages. FCSL coaches and Parkview Players will work with the U5 through U11 age ranges. Registration Deadline is July 2nd.

U12 through High School – Monday through Friday – 6:00 to 9:00 PM – $100.00

U5 through U11 – Monday through Wednesday – 6:00 to 8:00 PM – $40.00

According to FCS Club Director Cliff Nurnberg, there are no concerns regarding the new association with a “big market” club. “The relationship will be reciprocal. We both gain from the union.” said Nurnberg. He explained “Kansas City respects what we have established here, and they know we could do just fine as FC Springfield alone. We will maintain complete control of our direction and budgets in Springfield, and it is clear that the merger’s pros outweigh the cons for our players and their futures”.

“FC Springfield, Cliff and Clint Nurnberg, and every other contact we’ve had with the club has been quite impressive.  We’re anxious to bring our positive developmental curriculum to the kids of southwest Missouri and unite with the first class group of coaches at FC Springfield” said Andrew Clifton, Legends Soccer Clubs Director and Drury Alumnus

 FC Springfield was established in 2008 to provide a lower cost club soccer option and a “player first” program for the Springfield, Missouri area. The program has grown from 2 teams to 11 teams in two and a half years. FC Springfield also merged with SpringHigh Select in 2008 providing playing opportunities for players in the U5 through U19 age ranges.

 Kansas City Legends started in 1988 and runs forty teams from U8 to U18 in range from its Lenexa, Kansas headquarters. The club has expanded its presence in other markets near and in the Midwest.

 FC Springfield Legends will hold tryouts on Monday, June 21^st and Tuesday, June 22^nd from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Lake Country on Field 8.

(*) – The U13 team is attempting to arrange its own schedule outside of Lake Country this season. This may entail the creation of a regional travel league, or possibly a series of friendlies with clubs from other parts of Missouri and Arkansas. As a result, we do not have final answer on league costs; however, the $65 league fee above will ensure we can enroll in Lake Country’s league should the other opportunities fail to materialize.

Additionally, we expect the non-LCS option to cost less than $65 per player, which means the total amount due may likely be less than the $215 shown above. Finally If we do enter the tournament in Kansas City, be prepared to budget for hotel accommodations.

Please keep in mind that while  spring soccer games are played in April and May, the registration process is done primarily in February, so players will be expected to communicate their intentions early that month.
